Mooloolah State School is committed to every student reaching their potential. Our whole school vision is one of inclusiveness for ALL students.
Our Special Education staff at Mooloolah SS includes two experienced teachers (Caroline Kelly and Donna Aspinall), a team of resourceful skilled teacher aides, a Head of Special Education (April Persini) who visits the school weekly and a Guidance Officer (Libby Howlett) who visits our school every Thursday. Head of Teaching and Learning (Kristy Forrest) manages the RTI – early intervention program for students needing extra teaching in the area of Literacy. Head of Behaviour (Michael Forrest) supports students who require an individual behaviour plan and targeted intervention to address behaviour needs.
A Student Services Committee operates fortnightly to ensure intervention is explored and provided for identified students. All student referrals must be supported by parental permission before an initial consultation can be undertaken.
Students with Disabilities
Support for students with disabilities is provided through a supportive, inclusive model. All students are included in regular classrooms but still have access to focused and intensive, group and individual support as needed. Eligible students are supported with an Individual Curriculum Plan and additional teacher/teacher aide time is given to support programs as required. Ongoing parent involvement and communication is an important aspect of our support.
Visiting Specialist Staff
Our Guidance Officer provides a range of services including; assessments, counselling, placement and referral to community agencies. The services are accessed through a referral process and prioritised at the Student Services Committee.
A Speech Language Pathologist visits fortnightly. Students are referred for speech language therapy by their class teachers and prioritised for support through our Student Services Committee.
Advisory Visiting Teachers, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists visit regularly and provide support for eligible students.
